A smart alarm without a monthly fee: how it actually works

What a smart alarm with no monthly fee does when a door opens at 2am, who is told, and what it costs.

This alarm has no subscription. Nothing is stored in a cloud, and the app keeps working because nothing about it depends on a monthly payment. The brains live in your house.

What happens when a door opens

A door or window sensor sees the change and tells a small hub in a cupboard. If the alarm is set, the hub starts an entry countdown (typically 30 seconds) so you can disarm at the panel or on your phone. If nobody does, the hub turns on the sirens and the lights, saves every camera, and sends a message with the picture to the people you chose.

None of that needs the internet. The sensors, the hub and the sirens talk to each other in the house, so a cut cable at the pole does not switch your alarm off. Only the messages to phones outside the house need a connection, and they go the moment it returns.

What it costs

A one-off for the kit and the fitting. The price depends on cameras, house size and whether the heating joins in. A short chat on WhatsApp usually produces a fixed price without a visit.
